RADIO PROGRAMME
(Supplied by the Radio Broadcasting Company of N.Z. Ltd.) SATURDAY, MAY 9th. This evening IYA will relay from tlie Town Hall, a concert to be given by the .Municipal Choir under the eouductorship of Mr Maughan Barnett. The presentation of the “Eight o’ clock Revue” under the direction of Mr Will Bishop, will occupy the first half of 2YA’s programme. The second half will lie in the hands of the Salon Orchestra, and Mr Will Hancock (tenor) who will be heard in three numbers—“Oipsv Song,” ‘‘When Song is Sweet” and “I Hoard You Go By.” Lyndon Christie and his Rhythmic Symphonists have been engaged bv 3YA for this evening. A wide variety of items, displaying the orchestra’s capability.s, will be played. One of McDowell', s delightful “Woodland sketches”—“To a Wild Rose ’ —will be played as a soxophone solo by Mr •Christie, to accompaniment by the orchestra. The orchestra will also accompany Mr Herb. Fox in liis cornet solo “Maeushla.” The vocalists for tlie evening will include the popular contralto. Miss Nellie Lowe, Mr J. Hayden Williams (tenor) and Mr Jack Hood, singing cabaret songs at tlie piano. The evening’s programme will bo relayed to 4YA.
MONDAY, MAY 11th. From 2YA this evening there will he a thre''-onnrt.er recital of Rubinstein's tuneful music, comprising songs, on is. piano solos, and orcnestrai items. Vocal solos will he contributed by Miss Jeannette Briggs and pianoforte numbers by Mr Gordon Short.. A short talk on the composer’s life will ho given by Mrs Daisy Ba.-ham. Mi Finest Glading, a very fine baritone, will make his first appearance at 2YA. An instrumental Trio, consisting of Madame Evelyn do Manny. Mr Leon do Manny and Mr Claude Tanner, will play two groups of light chamber music.
3YA’s concert programme will be given by Derry’s Military Band (conductor J. Scott), the supporting vocalists being Mrs Grace Empson (mezzo soprano), Miss Myra Sutton (contralto), Mr W. J. Bisehlager (tenor; and Mr J. North (baritone). Several familiar songs will be sung and tlie programme should he a very populpi one.
fYA will broadcast the first instalment of the international programmes, which have proved so popular at 2YASilent day at IYA.
