RADIO PROGRAMME
(Supplied by the Radio Broadcasting Company of N.Z. Ltd.) FRIDAY, MAY Bth. There will be plenty of variety on lYA’s programme this evening. There will be another appearance of Mr Simon Philipoff and his balalaika. A new artist to IYA and a very fine baritone, Mr J. \Y. NichoUs, will sing several well known ballads. Migter Hee will dispense “Radio Magic” and the Salon Trio will be heard in instrumental trios, soprano solos (with violin! '.obligato) violin solos, piano solos and ’cello solos, while Messrs Erie Waters and Ray Jury will once again be heard in piano and xylophone novelties. Other instrumental numbers will be provided by that popular combination, Bert Tviugsland’s Saxophon© Quartet. 2YA has an interesting programme. Featured on it will lie two humorous sketches acted by Mr and Mi's J. W. Bailey of Auckland. The Oreiiestrina will present bright musical numbers. Mr R. J. O. Madignn (basso) will be heard in two songs with orchestral accompaniment, “Cloze Props” and “Harlequin.” Mrs Mildred Kenny’s Guitar Orchestra will again delight listeners with popular numbers, including the Maori tune “Hnere Ra e Rere Taku Poi.”
A miscellaneous programme will be beard from 3YA. Miss Frances Hanierton, well known as a soprano soloist, will give a pianoforte recital. Further instrumental numbers will be provided by Mr Harold Beck (’cellist) •ml the Christchurch Broadcasting Trio, while Mr Les. Croft will demonstrate what can be accomplished on mouth organs. One of his numbers will be played on what is claimed to be the smallest mouth organ in tlr” world, without the aid of hands. Bv means of recordings, orchestral, military band, violin, balalaika and acoordeon selections will be introduced. The vocalists for the evening will be tli,? Salon Quartet, presenting a popn|ir programme of solo and concerted numbers, the latter including some plantation songs.
Some familiar melodies will lie heard from the S dect Four, a mixed quartet nf 4YA—“Minute Gun at Sea,” “Gld Mother Hubbard,” “The Bells of St. Michael’s Tower,” “Hark. 'Tic the Indian Drum” and “A Perfect Day.” The soloists will be Miss Lottie d f ' Hifford, Miss B. Hamilton, Mr J. E Davies and Mr E. B°nd. The Bluebird Hawaiian Trio will present, novelrr numbers, there will be a violin solo by Miss Ethel Wallace, a piano solo by Miss S. Baker and selections by a trio.
SATURDAY, MAY 9th. This evening IYA will relay from th.? Town Hall, a concert to be given by the Municipal Choir under the conductorship of Mr Maughan Barnett. The presentation of the “Eight o’ - jr.ck Rev-e” und *r the direction o( Air Will Bishop, will occupy the first half of 2YA’s programme. The second half will b? in the hands of the Salon Orchestra, and Mr Wi 1! Hancock (tenor) who will he hoard in three numbers—“Gipsy Song,” “When Song is Sweet” and “I Heard You Go By.” Lyndon Christie and his Rhythmic Symphonicts have been engaged by 3YA for this evening. A wide variety of items, displaying the ordipctrn’s capability, will be played. One of McDowell’s delightful “Woodland sketches’ ’—“To a Wi 1 t.l Rose”——will be played as a soxoplione solo by Mr •Christie, to accompaniment by the orchestra. The orchestra will also accompany Mr Herb. Fox in his c-ornet solo “Macushla.” The vocalists for the evening will include the popular contralto, Miss Nellie L°'Vie, Mr J. Hayden Williams (tenor) and Air Jack Hood, singing cabaret songs at the piano. The evening’s programme will bo relayed to 4YA.
