PORT HOBART MISHAP
NATIONAL, COURT INQUIRE . (By Telegraph—Per Press Association) WELLINGTON. May 8. Expressing, the opinion that the MasLei- was not justified in continuing the course at full speed in the last sixteen minutes prior to the mishap, the Nautical Court, which inquired into the mishap to the Port Hobart off Turakarae flead.on April 4th., ordered the Master Captain Cot tel I to pay 20 guineas towards the cost of the inquiry. The Court recognised that the storm, of which the Master was not aware, had • omoted a set. which probably contributed in putting the ship off the course which as laid down was in the Court’s opinion.a safe one, hut when the .Master got a glimpse two and a-hali points off the starboard bow of what lie, believed to he Turakirae, but which was too indistinct to get his bearings, and thereafter could not. see the land, his prudent course' would have been to give ti e Point a wider berth. The Court, djd not think he was justified in continuing at full speed on the course he was pursuing.
