RADIO PROGRAMME

THURSDAY, MAY 7th. Th 0 Savoy Male Quartet, consisting of Messrs Bert Skoels, Prank Campbell., Arthur Gaily anfl Sid Pofflev, a popular combination at IYA, will be singing this evening. The Orchestral Octet will be heard m several numbers, including “Three Jevington Sketches,” “The Maid of the Mountains” selection and “Mv Lady Drag-on-fly Suite.” The programme will conclude with a gramophone lecturerecital to be given by Miss Molly Atkinson, entitled “Immortal Mozart.” A special studio concert to be given by the Salvation Army Band and assisting artists, will be broadcast by •>\ A. A very interesting programme has been arranged. The vocal portion is well varied, and includes choral numbers by a girls’ choir and a male voice jclioir. nvitjli duets .aml solos. Features of the programme w ifl be the piano solos by Mr Hayden Red way and concertina solos by Brigadier Tnirie. a violin solos by Miss O. Burton, a cornet solo by Bandsman Dutton and trios by Misses Gray amt Burton and Mrs Peterson (piano, organ and violin.). A “Shakespeare Night” is scheduled by 3YA. The programme lias been arranged and will be presented by the Canterbury Repertory Theatre Society. Numerous excerpts, humorous as well ns dramatic, from the works of the great writer, will be acted, a,ml musical numbers, vocal and instrumental, will be given. Mrs H. -I. McLaren will be the soloist, singing “Where the Bee Sucks.” “It w<ts 11 Lover and llis Lass” and “LJndor the Greenwood Tree.” ,Silent night at 4YA.
FRIDAY, MAY Bth. There will he plenty of variety on lYA’s programme this evening. There will be another appearance of Mr Sunon Philipoff and his balalaika. A new artist to IYA and a very fine aritoii. ■, .Mr .). W. Nicholas, " ill sing several well known ballads. Mister ..ee will dispense “Radio Magic” and •be Salon Trio will be beard in instrumental trios, soprano solos (with violiy! lubligato) violin solos, piano solos and ’cello solos, while Messrs Krie Waters and Ray .Inly will once again be heard in piano and xylophone novelties. Other instrumental numbers will be provided by that Mopuh'r combination, Bert Kingsland’s Saxophone Quartet. 2Y A has an interesting programme. Featured ou it will be two humorous sketches acted by Mr and Mrs J. \\ . Bailey of Auckland. The Orcuestrina ■•ill present bright musical numbers. Air It. J. C. Madigan (basso) will be heard in two songs with orchestral accompaniment. “Cloze Props” and “Harlequin.” Mrs Mildred Kenny’s Guitar Orchestra will again delight listeners with popular numbers, including the Maori tune “Haere Ra e Re re Taku Roi.”
A miscellaneous programme will he beard from 3YA, Miss Frances Hnme.rton, well known as a soprano soloist, will give a pianoforte recital. Further instrumental numbers will be provided by Mr Harold Beck (’cellist) and the Christchurch Broadcasting Trio, while Mr Ties. Croft will demonstrate what can be accomplished on mouth organs. One of bis numbers will lie played on what is claimed to be the smallest mouth organ, in the world, without the aid of hands. By means of recordings, orchestral, military band, violin, balalaika and aceordeon selections will be introduced. Tlie vocalists for the evening will be the Salon Quartet, presenting a popular programme of solo and concerted numbers, the latter including some plantation songs. Some familiar melodies will be heard from the Select Four, u mixed quartet at 4YA—“Minute Gun at Rea,” “Old Mother Hubbard,” “The Bells of St. Michael’s Tower,” “Hark, ’Tis the Indian Drum” and “A Perfect Day.” The soloists will be Miss Lottie do Clifford, Miss B. Hamilton, Mr J. E. Davies and Mr E. Bond. Tlie Bluebird Hawaiian Trio will present novel1-- numbers, tho-e will be a vio'in solo by .Miss Ethel Wallace, a piano so!o by Miss S. Baker and selections by a trio.
