THOUGHTS OF THE TIMES.
HAILED AS LEADED. Few Australian politicians have leapt to lame in such a meteoric fashion as Mr Lyons. Eight months ago, as acting-Fed-oral Treasurer, he was regarded by the public as merely another of the poiiticians of the “my party, right oxwrong” type. Only a few weeks ago, with a few “mates” (as he calls them) he walked out, of the Labour Party on a question of principle, without, apparently, any hope of a political future. To-day Air Lyons is hailed enthusistically as the future Prime Minister of Australia. He hag performed a modern miracle. He has gathered into one camp a number of diverse groups, movements, and parties, and secured their allegiance—all in a few weeks. Australian political history cannot furnish a parallel to such a development, —Sydney Telegraph.
