Declining attendances and falling t-otalisatov receipts have compelled the Canterbury Jockey Club to make reductions in the stakes fu" the Grand National and the N.Z. Cup meetings. The stakes for the Grand National meeting have been reduced £2OOO for the three days. The Grand National Steeples will be worth £1300; the Winter Cup £000; the Beaufort Steeples £400; the Grand National Hurdles £1000; Sydenham Hurdles £4OO, and Lincoln Steeples £4OO.

The minor events have been reduced, most of them by £SO.

For the November meeting, the New Zealand Cup stake has been reduced to £ISOO, and the classics as follows; Welcome Stakes £6OO. Middle? Park Plate £3OO, Champagne Stakes £SOO, Challenge Stakes £4OO.
