C.J.C. STAKES. CUT OF £2OOO. (By Telegraph —Per Press Association) CHRISTCHURCH. May 5. Declining attendances and falling t-otalisatov receipts have compelled the Canterbury Jockey Club to make reductions in the stakes fu" the Grand National and the N.Z. Cup meetings. The stakes for the Grand National meeting have been reduced £2OOO for the three days. The Grand National Steeples will be worth £1300; the Winter Cup £000; the Beaufort Steeples £400; the Grand National Hurdles £1000; Sydenham Hurdles £4OO, and Lincoln Steeples £4OO.
The minor events have been reduced, most of them by £SO.
For the November meeting, the New Zealand Cup stake has been reduced to £ISOO, and the classics as follows; Welcome Stakes £6OO. Middle? Park Plate £3OO, Champagne Stakes £SOO, Challenge Stakes £4OO. Derby £IOOO. Oaks £SOO. The total saving under these heads for the November meeting is £I3OO. MARLBOROUGH R.C ACCEPTANCES.

FINE ACRE DROPS DEAD. RAWER-A. May 5. Fine Acre, one of tip. fancied candidates for the Egniont Steeples, dropped h'ad in his stall shortly after being ,! od to-day. White Ringlet is an unlikely starter on account of injuries, caused by a fall on a bitumen road. Valueless was scratched for the Telegraph Handicap at- two o’clock. Royal Damon who was telegraphed vesterday as being scratched for the Macßae Memorial, was not- scratched for that event, hut for the Hack Steeples.
