COMBINED MEETING
AMBERLEY AND HORORATA. i The combined Meeting of the Amberlev and Hororata Racing Clubs held at Riccarton on Saturday was successful in every way. The public assembled in satisfactory numbers, and were rewarded with some interesting racing. .Speculation was reasonably well maintained'throughout the programme, the sum of £13.21b being handled. The AHi berley Club’s figures at its annua! Meeting last year were £B l fill in «. those -at Hororata were.., .£5894.. 10s, making a total of £14.055. but as the nomination and acceptance lees and the gate would show ;ati increase. each club should derive a useful profit,. The Meeting was well, coif-I trolled under the secretaryship of Mr A. H. Noilll. who wa's' assisted by 1 1"' Canterbury Jockey Chib’s staff, and patrons had every reason to appreciate the bill of fare provided.
A AIONTM’S SUSPENSION. At 'Hie’conclusion' o)''tho"G. B. ‘fitnrky Memorial Handicap, on. Saturday, an (inquiry was held into interference which Mount Boa appeared to suff r after two furlongs had been covered, and as a result. J. A 7. Jenningri. rider of Starshooter, was suspended for a
month for crossing Mount, Boa, while B. Peed, ri.tler o'' the latter, was cautioned by the stewards for. giving- wlmt was considered uiisat’isfactery evidence. At the time of the* incident st°rshnoter was racing in front of Mo'”’ T Boa. hut owing to one o'' the outsold horses crowding in on him he lead to he steadied to avoid a collision wit* l the rails, and in so doing went hack on to Mount Boa. who in turn inte v -- fered with liorses following in liis wake Tt was thus apparent tliere was no "round for a charge of crossin", and that any trouble caused bv Rtarshoofer was accidental and that his rider did not seem to he entitled to the blame. This opinion was borne out by Beed and other riders in a position to s-'e the occurrence, who expressed surprise at the finding of the stewards This is the first punishment suffered by Jennings during his lengthy caieer in saddle, and it is understood he will lod"e an appeal to the District Committee.
