At the Borough Council meeting on Friday notification was made of a vote of £25 for the benefit of unemployed returned soldiers, subject to the Council subsiding tlie amount £ for £. Advice has been received that Air -J. U. Rutland, managing director of Rutland's Proprietary .Ltd., Auckland, has been appointed Government repre. sentative of the New Zealand Honey Control Board, vice Air T. E. Clarke resigned. The new regulations relating to the Motor Vehicles Act in regard to tho issue of motor drivers’ licenses, are now jn force, and apply to the issue of drivers’ licenses for the end of this month. All applications for licergos must he in accordance with the regulations' Provision is made for the appointment- of testing officers by tlie local body. Lengthy application feigns for license will have to be filled in, and evidence of physieial fitness aau general health furnished. Licenses must be taken out with tlie local body in whose district- the garage i-s located. Tests for licenses include those for eyesight and hearing, knowledge of traffic law, and practical cirivmg. Youths under 24 years of age cannot get a license to drive a public motor car or motor omnibus, and no youtn 'under 18 years of age can drive a trade motor weighing over two tons unladen.
