WAIKAWA WITHDRAWN

TRANS-PACIFIC SERVICE. AUCKLAND, April ‘29. Advice received by the local office of tlie Union Company state that the Waikuwa is to come to Auckland from Sydney shortly to be laid up. The vessel is being withdrawn frohl the Trans-Pacific cargo service owing to the slackness of trade, which is also responsible for others of the company’s steamers being idle at Auckland. Tho other vessels are the Kairanga, Waitemata, Ivurow and Kaituna, in addition to the Trans-Pacific motor-ship Hauraki, which is undeigoing repairs in dock. Before the general depression of over seas trade the Union Company employed six vessels making time-table voyages in the Trans-Pac.hc cargo service. The Waitemata and Ivairanga were withdrawn some months ago and the Wailiemo was laid up recently. The on'y vessels in the service now are the Waiotapu, which was reconimiss’oned to replace the Hauraki, and the Wailiemo. Both vessels are now hading at Pacific Coast ports for New Zealand and Australia.
