Jn the House of Representatives, Mr Eldridge who belongs to the Beas ley group, gave notice of intention to move that a referendum be held for the abolition of the Senate. Answering a question, the Prime Minister said application had been made by Imperial Airmail Company, for a mail subsidy between England and Australia. “I replied that there was very little prospect of such a subsidy being granted.”

A SENATE MOVE. / (Received 10.25 a.m.) CANBERRA, May 1. (There are important developments in the proceedings of the Bank Amendment Bill which proposed to use gold reserve for meeting overseas committments. The Senate voted to have Sir Robert Gibson called to the Bar of the House next week to give evidence relating to the measure. This w r as notified by the Leader of the Opposition, Sir Geo. Pearce, when the Senate met. The debate on the Bill in the Senate was adjourned until next week. LABOUR CAUCUS. SYDNEY, May 1. A move was made by Premier Lang to convene a special meeting of the Labuur caucus to-day. Members of the Ministry and Lang followers will, L seems, make an atempt to discipline the section that threatens to revolt against the financial policy of the Government. Exception is taken by them to opinions expressed by Mr Kelly, cabled yesterday. According tor statements made in the Parliamentary lobbies, an open revolt in the caucus against the Lang Plan is not likely, because the recalcitrant members fee. it will be better tactics to remain silent until a more opportune time arrives.
