PEDITTIONS MADE. (By Telegraph — Bcrl'ress Association) WELLINGTON. April 30. Without discussion, the Wellington Hospital Hoard passed a resolution today that all the hororari.i. salaries, and wages of its staffs, excepting the award wages, he reduced by 10 per cent. In the case of those who are paid monthly, the reduction is to operate .is from April Ist. In the case of those paid weekly it ,starts from April 30. It was decided that, in addition to this reduction, all the members of the staff living in, except the first, second, third and fourth year nurses, shall have the equivalent of 10 per cent of their emoluments deducted from their salaries or wages. These conditions do not apply to the appointments made since December 1, 1930, if the commencing salary is below the schedule rate. The new are to remain in operation until December 31, 1932, when according to the resolution, the whole position will be ieviewed by the Board. Upon an intimation from the Health Department that it was not prepared to recommend the Minister to approvo its Board’s estimates, until the amount of them had been reduced from £144,023 to £129,789, the Wellington Hospital Board decided to-day to make the necessary adjustment to enable this to he done. A special meeting of the Board will he held on Wednesday next, The Board’s action will involve an air teration in the appointment of its levy upon the local bodies. DOCTORS’ SALARY CUT. Simultaneous with the insertion of in advertisement in the ‘’Dominion” that they would bo glad to hear of vacancies on other hospital staffs or as lociuns, the house surgeons of the Wellington Plospitai wrote to the Hospital Board protesting against the ass. cssment of their living in accommodation as a means of further reducing their salaries. This method of protest was descrln?d by members of the Board to-day ■•is being “unconstitutional,” ’ and most improper.
