On Wednesday next the C'hrysathennim Show will bo. the centre of attraction. The late additions to the Soldiers’ Hall will permit of a better display than ever, and with the fine blooms in readiness for the Show the public will be able to enjoy quite an outstanding display. The Show will be open both afternoon and evening.
The death took place at Wellington last week of Mr Walter DMgloish. Stock Inspector in the Department of Agriculture, Hastings. Mr Dalgleish went to Wellington on medical advice only a week previously to be operated noon. After the operation lie gradually failed, however, and death occured on Friday. Mr Dalgleish wa s born in the C'lutha district sixty yogi's ago. At the age of twenty-three he joined the Agricultural Department, and atthe time of his death had completed 37 years of unbroken service. He wa> first appointed to Gore, and later served at Wanganui, Wairoa, West Coast and Nelson. Later be went to Hastings. The deceased is survived bv his widow, and an unmarried daughter, Alias Mavi s Dalgleish. of Nelson. Tito late Air Dalgleish was well known and highly respected during his time on the Y e*t Coast.

The Minister of Interim! Affairs lms decided definitely not to approve the proposed combined meeting by the Westland and Ashburton Having Clubs at Riccarton on May 23. The Minister has intimated his willingness t<> approve the Westland C'lub racing at Riccarton on a date agreed to bv the Racing Conference. The AY estlnnd Cluh has applied to the Christchurch Racecourse Trustees for permission to use the Riccarton course on May 30th and if granted the Racing Conference will he asked to approve accordingly. Failing tins arrangement the meeting will probably have to bo abandoned.

A novel exhibit at the St. Paul’s fPapanni) Church Flower Show wa? n giant New Guinea butter bean grown by Mr Blum s ky. This bean is a hothouse plant. It is about the size o' a large vegetable marrow, weighs eight pounds, and is thirty-one inches '» length. According to the grower, it would supply enough vegetables for a meal for sixteen persons.
