MR FORBES’ PROPOSAL
MR HOLLAND’S VIEW.
(H;i Trleyraph—Per Press Association)
WELLINGTON, April 29
Asked to express an opinion on Mr Forbes’s invitation to Mr Contes, Mr H, E. Holland, the Leader of the Labour Party, said; “1 do not think the situation calls for any comment from me. Mr Forbes’s invitation has not been extended to the Labour Party. It really represents ft despairing “5.0.5,” from the captain of a sinking ship to another skipper, who is the owner of the cargo on board the doomed vessel. Mr Contes’s trouble may be that any endeavour on his part to save the United Ship and its cargo from total loss, and its crew from political drowning, will gravely endanger his own somewhat leaky vessel, to say nothing of the already threatened lives of his reluctant crew.” FRAMING A NEW POLICY. WELLINGTON, April 29. Mr Forbes in an interview to-day indicated that his offer to the Reform Party proposing a fusion intended that' this arrangement should he a permanent one, and, that the framing of a future policy should be a matter for the combined new party, which would start with a clean sheet. The Premier informed a ‘Tost” reporter this afternoon that there had been no further developments of the proposal to form a National Party, excepting that- he had received a large number of telegrams, many from repre sentntive citizens throughout the Dominion ,expressing approval of the action he had taken.
