RADIO PROGRAMME

THURSDAY, APRIL 30th

The Orpheus Music Club Orchestra will provide a programme at IYA this evening. Vocal s o]os and duets with orchestral accompaniment will be sung by Mrs L. E. Lambert and Mr Frank Sutherland. Humour will be given by Mifls Rhona Speed, and Miss Gwenda Weir, one of Auckland’s leading sopranos, will be heard in several ballads. The programme will be a very popular one. 2YA schedules a studio concert bv the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve Band (under Mr Harry Baker), with a supporting vocal programme f°r this evening. The band lias arranged a very fine programme, which will in(hide all the music that was to he played at the Wellington Band Contest. The majority of the numbers have not hitherto been heard from 2YA. The vocalists for the evening will he the popular Lyric Four and Miss Evelyn Robinson (contralto).

Excerpts from two popular operas, “Carman’’ and “Maritana” will he featured at 3YA, the vocalists being the Grand Opera Quartet. Among other popular numbers to be sung will be “Home Sweet Home ” “A Bream,” “Summer Rain” and “Remembrance.” The evening’s programme will also be notable as marking the second appearance at 3YA of Professor Zimir.erriiann, violinist, whns-> items will be played to orchestral accompaniment. The New Clarion Quartet, consisting of Miss«s Lilian. Woods and Beryl Smith, Messrs Lambert Harvey and Duncan Black, will be heard in several solos, duets and quartettes, including a medley of old-time songs. The orchestral octet will also contribute.

A special feature of 2YA’P Pr°gramme will he a, recital by Mi Clement May of excerpts from C. J. iv -|i rtrt “The Sentimental Bloke.” Mr Denifl Sfienrd (the Australian tenor), will again d 'light listeners i» four popular songs with orchestral accompaniment, “Eileen Allanah, and “Where the River Shannon Flows,” “When My Ships Come Sailing Home” and “When Irish Eyes are Smiling.” Another vocalist will be Mr Geo. Neel, baritone. Mr Allan Sharnl will he heard in novelty piano solos. Tlio Oichestrina will supply the incidental music for the evening.

Making his debut to 3YA listeners thin evening will be Mi' Karl Atkinson, whose gramophone lecture-recitals from IYA have been so popular. His theme will he “The Lure of the Waltz.” Mr Atkinson is now on the Mniinistrntiv.e staff of the Broadcasting Company, Christchurch. Also contributing to the programme will be Mrs Nelson Kerr (contralto) and Mill. S. H. Buchanan (bass), presenting a variety of voc-al numbers, Mi«s Aileen Warren (pianiste), the Mel°dv Makers (with saxophone and piano) ■ ml tin* Studi-o Trio, presenting bright music. Introduced into the play will be “Tbe Cottage Scene” from “The Lady of Lyons,” written by Lord Lytton. It is to be produced by Miss Naai'e Hooper, who will he assist»d by Miss Daisy Armstrong and Mr IT. L. Shaw.

A popular programme will be provided by the 4YA Salon Orchestra. The vocalists will bg Miss Vallis (mezzo-soprano), l\iiss M. Kenward (mezzo-contralto) and Mr Montague ( tenor) with Scottish humour from Mr B. Brown. Selections on the harmonica “Popular Marches” and “Popular Melodies,” will he played by Mr E. Murphy.
