Suspected of murdering a woman, John Harrity, a farmer of Ratlnnuliin, County Donegal, put up an extraordinary fight against arrest. Upon receiving a warning, he seized a gun and ammunition and rushed to Loughswilly and clambered into a boat. Four civil guards manned another boat and went in pursuit. Harrity picked oft and wounded each.
Police and soldiers then manned four boats, firing while converging on the fugitive, who only surrendered, slightly wounded, when the boat sank under him.
