CONTROL-OF THE PROFITS

AY ELLINGTON. April 29. At the N.Z. Rugby Union meeting there was recommendation from Canterbury that for future tours, all of the Unions holding matches receive 20 per cent, of the ground takings, and 33 1-3 per cent, of the grandstand takings. This was approved after a prolonged discussion on the question of flic distribution of the profits from the British tour of last year. The meeting rejected a remit from the Wellington Union to the effect that the nett proroedft from the tour be divided among all of the affiliated Unions and the New Zealand Union, in accordance with a scheme’ of division to be approved by 11 10 delegates. The position remained that the control of all of the profits from the British tour was in the hands of the Management Committee-. Though the delegates generally were satisfied this should be so, considerable dissatisfaction was expressed that a number of advances and of loans to Union had been made before all of the applications ‘had been received.

RADIO QUESTION UNDECIDED. The opinion was divided on the question of whether the broadcasting of matches was for the benefit of ;• Clio game as far as finance was concerned. It was pointed out by several mouthers that the meeting really had no power to make any hard and fast ucvision, as the question was more one that affected the individual unions.

Though several conflicting motions were presented; it was eventually decided to leave tlie whole queston in file hands of the Management ‘ Committee.

In regard to broadcasting, Dr Adams said that there was not the least doubt that • while the broadcasting of big matches .in the four centres 'did hot seriously hamper the finances of these centres, it did hamper the •oniiiry unions, and as the public became mere educated to listening in to matches, broadcasting would ultimately jeopardise the finances of country unions, and it might therefore be wise at this stage to adopt a universal policy for their protection. The p-ofits of the British tour far ...ce.iec! the estimates of the most mil mist i • and from the point of view f the Now Zealand Union must have riven tl e utmost satisfaction. Whilst :i-ideri:ig the main necessity for ic atio ■’ of a big part of the profits A - the provision of grounds in various , rt;s of the nominion, where most •c'luired. he hoped that sight would it be lost of tlio hardship suffered y many country unions, as the .result v last, season’s losses, which could . ’i| avoided with the poor financial prospects in front of them during die coming season. SELECTOKS EXPENSES. WELLINGTON. April 29. At the N.Z. Rugby Union meeting, some of the questioned this ifternoon the amount of £p!.'9 14s appearing on the balance sheet as “Selectors’ Expenses..’,* Ail explanation was given by Mr E. McKenzie, of Wairarapa. He said that, so far as lie knew, the amount was compiled of travelling expenses, and also of £1 per day. He said that about six week’s travelling had. been : involved. As far a K regarded the complaint that no selector had seen the Wangainui and : Taranaki-representatives in iction, Mr McKenzie mentioned that i selector had been detailed to go to Taranaki, but at the last minute, had 'pen liliable to do so. A motion was presented suggesting Mint, for thi< year, the number of selcWs should be reduced, but this was Withdrawn when Mr Dean fi a.id. that he -bought it probable that only two 'electors from each Island would lie miointed by the Management-. .Committee this year. bulks of the game., WELLINGTON. 'pril 20. The principal tonic. at the annualmeeting of the New Zealand Rugby

A 1 addition were adopted : (1) That representations be made to tile Rugby'Football Union' loi one establishment of an Imperial Rugby Board, with adequate direct represontatation and that the Rugby Union be asked to convene a contereuce of Rugby Union s . of England, W-ales, Scotland,- Ireland, South Africa Australia, New Zealand and Canada during the forthcoming tour of South Africa to Great Britain, with a view to establishing such Imperial Rugby Board, to make laws and for the government of the game in all centres and the arrangement of international tours; tile Dominion Unions oe asked for their co-operation, and to be directly represented at such conference.
