RADIO PROGRAMME
(Supplied by the Radio Broadcasting Company of N.Z. Ltd.) WEDNESDAY, APRIL 29th. The vocalists on lYA’s programme this evening will include Miss Gwladys Edwardes, who is giving the second of her series of recitals at this studio, Miss Winifred Johnson (contralto) and Mr Leslie Belcher (tenor). A Topical Talk will !>e given by Mr A. B. Chappell, ALA. F°r the Orchestral Octet, a splendid programme of music has been arranged. The evening’s programme will conclude with a gramophone lecture-recital given by A Commentator. 2YA will he presenting the final instalment of the present series of international programmes. A new series will begin the following week. Mr E. J. Howard, M.P. will be the lecturer for the evening. 3YA will be relaying a public performance of the concert version of “Tnnnhauser” by the Royal C'hristclmrch Musical (Society. The Knox Church Choir is providing 4YA’s concert. This is an excellent vocal combination, singing under the direction of Mr C. Roy Spackman. In the ranks of the choir ar<» also some fine soloists. THURSDAY, APRIL 30th. The Orpheus .Music Club Orchestra will provide a programme at IYA this evening. Vocal s olos and duets with orchestral accompaniment will he sung by Mrs L. E. Lambert and Mr Frank Sutherland. Humour will b‘ given by Mifls Rhona Speed, and Miss Gwenda Weir, one of Auckland’s leading sopranos, will be beard in several ballads. The programme will be a very popular one. 2YA schedules a studio concert by the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve Band (under Mr Harry Baker), with a supporting vocal programme for this evening. The band has arranged a very fine programme, which will include all the music that was to be played at the Wellington Band Contest. The majority of the numbers have not hitherto been heard fro-” 2YA. The vocalist* for the evening '■■•ll he th? popular Lyric Four and Miss Evelyn Robinson (contralto). Excerpts from two popular operas, “Cnrm-m’’ and “M»ritana” will b« featured at 3YA. the vocalists bein' 1 : the Grand Opera Quartet. Among other popular numbers to be sung will 1)? “Home Sweet Home.’’ “A Dream,” “Summer Rain” and “Remembrance.” The evening’s programme will also be notable as marking the second appearance at 3YA of Professor Zimmerman n, violinist, wlicis-* items will he played to Orchestral accompaniment. AI popular orchestral programme will be provided by the Studio Octet under Mr Harold Beck. Silent day at 4YA.
