dictator increases SALARIES. (United Prow Association—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright ) MADRID, April 26. The mindful Dictator, Do Estella has increased Ministerial salaries bv ten thousand pesetas. Ministers refused to increase theirs until the Cortes decides whether the increase is warranted. The Minister of War is reducing the number of Army officers and ha s ordered that no further admissions be made to the military academy for 1931. The Papal Nuncio visited the Minister of Justice and assured him that the Church desired to collaborate with the Government in maintaining order. Ho hoped the Republic would respect the rights of religion. The only petty side of the magnificent victory; is tli e almost maniacal destruction of Royalist emblems. Shops hastily obliterated th? coats of arms formerly proudly displayed. The Minister of Finance has forbidden members of the Royal Family and relatives to the fourth degree, selling property until the Crown is taken over by the Republic, which is offering palace gardens to munuipaltiefi.
SPANISH AFFAIRS. MADRID, April 27. Sir George Graham has presented the Spanish Foreign Minister with six letters of recognition from Great Britain and the Dominions, causing great rejoicing among the members of the Provisional Government. Only Italy and Germany have not yet signified their recognition of the new government. General Mola, the ex-Chief of Police has been arrested in connection with the action of the police during the recent riot in which students were killed. Following on rumours that there lias been trouble in the Spanish fleet at Carthagena, it is now learned that, in addition, crews of the Cervantes and of two destroyers, in Cadi/, Har win, mutinied under Communist influence. The leaders of the mutiny wore overpowered, and were sent ashore m custody. * »
