AN UPROARIOUS MEETING

April 28. .“''Mr Theodore addressed a noisy meeting in the City Town Hall, explaining the Government’s financial policy and defending the fiduciary issue. A large section of his audience were obhostile, including a number of Varsity students who were involved in ' a series of fights with Mr Theodore’s supporters, on several occasions. The uproar was serious -and ,Mr Theodore tvas unable to continue for many minutes. Large numbers of people in the body of the half left 'hurriedly, fearing a riot. During a bitter, attack on the banks, Mr Theodore said the Govern mimi were not going to yield to the dictat- -. ion of the financial institutions, com - may, nor would ii: allow* the Com anonwealth Bank to act ' defiantly; since it was a prerogative of the Crown to decide the particular form of currency requisite for a nation’s safety.
