Racing circles are much interested in the announcement that the mighty Phar Lap, which is grazing at Bacchus March, is indisposed, and refuses to eat, in fact he is in a bad way. His trainer, Woodcock, is of tin ooinion that it is quite possible that Phar Lap will not he seen in action again. Re certainly is likely to be an absentee from the spring carnivals. The horse is a wreck of his former self. V.R.C. STAKES CUT DOWN. MELBOURNE, April 25. The Victoria Racing Club Commit tee has decided to reduce the stakes of many of its important races. Tin Melbourne Cup is being reduced by three thousand to seven thousand pounds; the Cantala Stakes and the Maribyrnong Plate by £SOO each; the Victoria Derby and Sires Produce I Stakes each by one thousand sterling.
