“When Sir James Jeans tells us.” writes Sir Leonard Hill to tTie ‘‘Times” ‘‘that the Universe appears to have been designed by it matiiamatician and Sir Atlmr Eddington affirms that responsibility towards truth is an attribute of our nature, the biologist may point out that life depends on accurate response to the environment. The subconscious life of the cells of our bodies accurately carried out exceeds the conscious by millions of millions (if times,, for these unconscious living cells are myriad in number. We need to think only of the millions of cells in every droplet of blood, and of the myriads of cells which clean sweep the air tubes of our lungs by an ordered rhythm of movement, which under suitable condition sof environment, continues for days after death.”
