A DAIRY CONFERENCE. [By Telegraph, Per Press Association.) HAAVERA, April 20. The Mangatoki Dairy Company circularised all dairy companies asking support at the N.D.A, Conference of a remit proposing that dairy hoard's powers should he extended to give it control of the internal administration of the industry. The N.D.A. has invited all non-member companies to be repre. sen ted at. the conference to discuss and vote upon the remit. RURAL CREDITS BOARD. WELLINGTON, April 20. At Ihe monthly meeting of Rural Intermediate Credits Board, it was reported there are now forty rural credit associations operating. It was also reported to the Board that applications bv borrowers Tor a revision ol the basis ol repayment ol their loans had been comparatively few. Having regard to the financial conditions. the position of the Board’s loams geneially was the subject of very favourable comment, it being considered the lending policy followed by the Board had been fully justified by results.
It was stated there were ample means available to finance farmers in tin* purchase of fertilisers, and in this connection several suggestions had been considered, which will result in further facilities being made available. ALLEGED ARSON. AN AUCKLAND CASE. AUCKLAND. April 17. John Lewis Gunning (42), a taxidriver, was committed for trial on a charge of will ally setting fire to clothing which fit! knew was likely to cause a building to catch on fire. The owner of the shop gave evidence that he was out of the city when the fire occurred. Insurance on the stock was .01500, and on the fittings £3OO. The stock in the shop at the time of the lire was worth £llOO. NETTING OF SALMON. .MINISTEIt’S KXPLANATION. WELLINGTON. April 17. A strong feeling of indignation, stated Mr H. S. S. K.vle (Riccarton) has been expressed on behalf of the Canterbury anglers by the North Canterbury Acclimatisation Society on account of the Marine Department, grant ing four netting licenses to net qtiinnat salmon in the* Waiinakariri River; in view of the fact that it was announced some time ago by the Marine Department that netting licenses would not he issued. The reply of the Minister of Marine the Hon. J. B. Donald) is that the four licenses issued this year were issued on the recommendation of the Chief Inspector of Fisheries, and were in accordance with the policy of the Department in regard to qninnat salmon fishing. KILLED INSTANTLY. HAMILTON, April 20. Joseph King, aged 25. a motor cyclist of Okoroire was killed instantly when he crashed into the engine of the north hound Rotorua limited at a level crossing, one mile north of Tima at* 11.30 this morning. His injuries were extensive.
