RADIO PROGRAMME

This evening IYA will reply from the Auckland Town Hall a concert t u be given by the Auckland Municipal Band under Captain George Buckley. The hand will present an exceptional programme. Miss '.Evelyn Robinson (contralto) and Mr Stan. Pritchard (baritone) will l> t! the vocalists. The Wellington Optimists’ Club, in conjunction with the 2YA Salon Orchestra, will provide the Wellington programme. They will present an entertainment of the revue type, the items including humorous numbers, light vocal solos, duets and sketches. Cabaret songs, including two minili'rs from “The House that .Jack Built,” sung by Miss Kathleen Johns will he heard from 3YA this evening, and flip programme will also he relayed to 4Y.\. Popular tenor .solos wili he contributed by Mr Oliver N. Foote, and bass solos by Air Sydney Wood. Air J. J. Flewellyn will give two humorous numbers. As banjolin solos, Air Stan. Birch will play a selection from “Alaritana,” and ‘ Paradise Alley.” Afr J. Woodham, an exponent of the mouth organ i will entertain with a number of popular airs. There will he violin solos by Miss Irene Alonis and selections by the Christchurch Broadcasting Trio.

An interesting item on 2YA's pro gramme this evening, will be ill* performance of Percy Grainger’s “Colon ial Song,” a piano solo with tenor and soprano voices singing an obligato. In this piece the composer endicavuuis to express feelings arou-sd by thoughts of the scenery and people of his native land i v ustm• in), without making us" of traditional times of any kind. The piano part will he played by Mr Gordon Short, and the obligato sung by Aliss Jeanette Briggs and Mr Harry Brusov. The Aid'd Singers will present Liza Lehmann’s popular song cycle “The Daisy Chain.” with trio accomijuniment at 2YA. The cycle consists of solos and quartettes, and r.'asou of its tunefulness and simplicity has universal appeal. Sup porting the vocal programme, the Orchestrion will contribute some fine nuniluTs including AlatLi’s beaut! “Non e Ver” (“Tis Not True”) for trumpet solo and orchestra. The supporting artists for U l ' Christchurch Municinul Band Concert at 3YA. will be Miss Adela Irme» (soprano), Mrs J. A. Stewart (mezzosoprano), Afr Percy A. Caithness (baritone) and Mr Harold Shaw (light humour).
The quartet known as “Tin* Al n, ors > will be tile vocalists at 4YA. Their numbers will include extracts from the musical play “No, No. Nanette. “Annie Laurie” and “The Cuckoo Sings in the Poplar Tree.” Miss Freda Elutes will sing “TinSarafan” and “I Love You so Well.” Popular songs will he sung by Air W - Robbins, tenor, and Air L. At. Cn"hemnillo, bass. As ’cello solos with orchestral accompaniment, AH Lloyd Hunter will plnv Squire’s “Slumbw Song” and Balfe’s “When Other Lips.” An orchestral programme will he provided by'a sextette under AH Pettitt. Silent day at IYA.
