: ANNUAL MEETINC. The annual general meeting was held in th e County Chambers on Wednesday the loth inst. Mr J. C. Macfarlane presiding over 133 members. The minutes of the'previous annual general meeting were read and confirm ed. CHAIRMAN’S REPORT. Ladies and Gentlemen, I have the honour to report on the operations of your club for the past year as follows: MATCHES. Club. 'Championship : Air H. Steel. Ladies Championship: Miss King. Open Mixed Foursome: Miss Lewis and Mr Cox. , . Final Mixed Foursome: (Mr Calian s trophy). Miss A. Mclntosh and Mr Chesney. i Men’s nominated fourball bogey: (Mr Chesney’s Trophy): Messrs Darby and Brown to play off with Messrs Wyles and'Nightingale . >. Men’s fourball Eclectic Medal (Mr Cagney’s; , trophy): Messrs Houston and Darby. ACaptain v. Secretary Tearria match: Captain’s- team. ! Kortegast .gj&pWi Messrs Wilson, and Neville to play: final, Cps.e: Mr Co*, Bogey aggregate (pnptain’s trophy) Messrs Cox and Houston equal - The usual monthly medal. and bogey matches were also played. . 1 . f , SEDDON CHALLENGE CUP. One match - ~.ayed on tjie Omoto Links with tlie Groymouth .Club, v Creymouth were successful- after some f-' - 'interesting and . close gatfies. %■-. Matches between secondary teams fl.-ojrt) the Hokitikaand Greymou ‘/4- Clubs were also;,'flayed on the tyahinapua Links, Hokitika were ,successful X in" annexing both the Caliari and Field cups. '' WEST COAST CHAMPIONSHIP This tournament'was played on. your links during Augus tand (September and proved a financial -success.- It,® .. u- weather conditions did not favour u» as well as might have . been expected 7 owing to the Thursday being too wet % for play, however "‘the Friday ana sfe&Y Saturday turned out fine and the tourr nament was able to he completed.
The and greens were in first class qrder. The mens’ course and bogey was altered for the tournament, thereby saving any congestion which otjierwio might hpve been. ■ Mr Sime, the Westport champion, again proved that lie is a golifer pi quality by winning the championship.
1 have much pleasure in' here referring, to the achievement of our locfil lady champion Mrs Partridge (nee Miss M. .E. Moore) in winning "the Ladies’ Coast Championship,
On the .Friday night the visitors were entertained at a ball which proved a very enjoyable'and sociable evening. The tournament will next be held on the Omoto Links, Greymouth.
GROUND IMPROVEMENTS. The Links this year are in better order than ever - before due no doubt to the good work done by the Caretaker, Mr F. Groufsky, and the motor mower, also the lessee, Mr Mclntosh has kept the links well ' grazed, MEMBERSHIP. The membership at the close of the season standing at 92, is not as satisfactory as it was las tseason, there being a falling off of 14 memners, owing mostly to transfers and the usual resignations. However, this year promises to show an improvement the reason being that golf is becoming a more popular game with the young people, and the low sub. offers a cheap form o'f recreation. FINANCE. The financial position of the club if* very satisfactory, there being a credit balance of £45, due to the good work of the Treasurer who has seen that, there are no outstanding subscriptions. PROFESSIONAL COACH. Mr Melvin visited the club during the season. Owing to his resignation a i Coach under the New Zealand Ass iciation, Mr Norman Fuller has fieen appointed in his stead and will visit' the Club some time in May. Members desiring coaching should hand in tneir names as early as possible.
r lhe outgoing committee recommends thnt a mixed foursome handicap be played on Saturday the 18th as the opening match for the season. j.he balance sheet was then read by the Treasurer who was congratulated on the satisfactory position which the balance sheet disclosed. The annual meeting of the Hokitika Ladies’ Golf Club was held in the •l > unity Chambers, on Wednesday April loth at 7 p.m. Present: Mrs Wilson in the chair and fifteen members. Before commencing the business of -the .meeting a vote of sympathy with Mrs Hopkins in her bereavement was passed in silence, members standing. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed and the annual report and- balance sheet ».e----ceived and adopted. '• - ANNUAL REPORT. Ladies: —Your committee begs to submit the following report tor the IG3O season. The year was an entirely successful one, many trophies kindly donated by members being keenly competed for and all the usual matches and competitions having a full entry, Our finances are satisfactory the balance sheet showing a credit oi £B, The links are in excellent order and a number of players reduced their handicaps, three from the unearned handicap division having gained their L.G.U. status. On August lath at a general meeting Mrs Wilson was unanimously fleeted Captain to fill the vacancy paused by the resignation of Mrs Neville r Mias Moore who foT many years has been lady champ s on of the club, and a keen find efficient member of thp Committee, has gone to live in the North Island. The club has sustained a serious loss ip the removal of -Miss Moore and we tyjsti her every happiness and success in her new sphere of life, MATCHES. The Club Champion this year is Miss King and now that we have no low handicap players in the Club competition for the coveted trophy will 'be very keen. . vile silver medal was won by Miss "Moore ah dtlie "Bronze -Medal by Airs Baker. Mrs Neville won the Desire Bowl and the Scavoley Cup went to Mrs Died rich. The West Coast Championships were held on our links this year and, despite some very inclement weather, proved a successful meeting, the links being in splendid order and a large number of entries iior all events being received. Miss Moore won the A 3 est Coast Ladies’ Championship defeating Buller’a strong player Mrs Slee by o and 4. Mrs Slee won the trophy for the best score. The Buller Club won the Ladies Challenge Shield with Hokitika only. 1 stroke behind.
IMPROVEMENTS. During the year water has beep laid on in the Radies’ dressing r°°m and .has proved a great convenience f or which our thanks are due to the Men’s committee. The recommendation of the last year's cnriipfittpe re allocation of strokes has been adopted. Your, committee recommends that the club rescind? the motion of the 1929 Committee and once more have a par and a Junior Championship for the unearned handicaps grade. We are very pleased indeed to welcome back to the cTib so vend life members who will be playing here this season. We wish to thank the following donors of trophies. Mf-s Coles, Mrs Cooke, Miss Lewis. Mrs Chesney, Mrs Moore ftpd Mrs Wilson. In conclusion the thanks of the club are due to the Indies for providing tea on Saturday and assisting with the entertainment of visitors on the occasions o>f inter p)nb matches, to the Press for their courtesy jn publishing details of matches and to the County Council for the use of their Chambers for our meetings, Mrs Butler kindly donated a cup to be used as a Junior Championship Cup. The question of a new championship cup for the L.G.U, division was left in fhe hands of the commiftpp, Tim election of officers then took place the result being fls follows: Captain: Mrs Wilson, Hon. Sec: Mrs Langford, Senior Handicap Manager: Miss Lewis. Junior Handicap .Manager: Mrs Irwin . This concluded the busmens of {he Ladies' meeting which terminated with a vote of thanks to the chair.
