RADIO PROGRAMME
(Supplied by the Radio Broadcasting Company of N.Z. Ltd.) THURSDAY, APRIL Kith. Two Australian broadcasting artists, new to IYA, will lx> singing tins evening. They arc: Mr Denis Sheard, tenor, and a very line contralto, Miss A. E. Harrison. Humour will be provided by Mr Dan Flood, and Mr Cyril Towsey will lie heard in a group of pianoforte solos. The Monte Carlo Orchestra, under the direction of Mr E. K. Cunningham, will be providing the instrumental portion of the programme, which will include a gramophone lecture-recital on “French Music’’ to be given by Miss Mollic Atkinson 2YA’s programme will be provided by the orchestra of the Wellington Commercial Travellers’ and Warehousemen’s Association. An exceptionally fine concert has been arranged and should prove a treat to music lovers. Mr Philip Hinge (baritone) and Miss Doris Benson (mezzo-so-prano) will be the vocalists. At 3YA, to orchestral accompaniment. Miss Millicent Jennings will sing three songs, two of fcbem being Syrian songs, which will he new to listeners. The other soloists will he Miss Francis Hamerton (soprano), Air Russell Sumner (tenor) and Mr T. D. "Williams (bass). Miss Thelma Cusack, (violiniste) will be accompanied by the Studio Octet in the playing of Aceolny’s “Concerto in A "Minor.” The Octet’s programme will include the overture “Fidelio,” Rizot’s “Spanish Serenade.” “The Nutcracker Suite” and “Cavalleria Rustieana.” From 9.30 fill 11 p.m. a programme of dance music will he provided bv Lyndon Christie’s Rhythmic Symphonists. Silent day at 4YA. FRIDAY, APRIL 17th. In lYA’s variety programme this (veiling the Orchestral Octet’s items will include the selection "Gipsy Princess’’ and the clarinet solo "Serenade” (by Schubert). The vocalists for the evening are three well known artists: Miss Eileen Smithson (singing popular songs), Miss Nellie Ling a rd (contralto) and Mr Arthur Wright (bass-baritone). The programme to be presented at 2YA will be of a varied ami interesting nature. The Orehe.strina’s selections will include tile overture “Ali»strelesque.” Miss Ann Gilpin (mezzosoprano), a newcomer to the studio, should prove a welcome acquisition to 2YA programmes. Mr Yal Jones ill sing and Mr Dan Foley (light baritone) will be heard in “On the Hoad to Mandalay.” “What the Red Haired Bos’n Said,’’ and “Kitty oi Colerain. A feature of the programme will he a banjo orchestra, which Ids been organised by Mrs H. (>. Reeves. Miss Nancy Bowden (contralto) a’ul Mr J. Gallagher fa new-emner to radio, who will sing songs ot a popular type) will be the vocalists on 3YA’s programme. As a snxoolumo solo, Mr Lyndon Christie will ph'.v (lie famous quartette Irom “Rigolet--In.” He will also play a “Nocturne. ’ a rather unusual type ot item for a saxophone. Pianoforte solos will he played by Mis* Aileeu Warren, and a cornet sob Hartman’s “Farewell.” by Air N. g’. Goffi". A inimb'-r of poniilar airs, several being plantation melodies, will bo played as accordian solos by Air AY. Sumner. Humorous recitations will be given by Air Jack Dnrragh. Trios by the Christchurch Broadcasting Trio will include “Graesk Festdans,” a festive Greek dance. A very attractive and well varied programme will he presented by 4A VThe” vocalists will he “Tin. Select Four” singing several concerted numbers. Solos will bn contributed bv ATiss T.ettie rb CGTo-d. Miss Ret tv Hamilton, Mr J. E. Davies and Mr Edward Bond. Air H. G. Napier will rrjve piano novelties and there will be humour by Air Leslie Muller. A trio consisting of Messrs A. H. Pottitt and L. and K. Hunter will contribute numerous light numbers.
