Tito President of the Court re-upn-ing the trial, asked Kuerten whether lie had not felt pity for his victims. Accused replied. “I abominate niy deeds and feel tile deepest sympathy for the poor unfortunate victims. I am now free from my passions.” Later Kuerten’s demeanour gave no sign of such remorse, and his calm remained uncanny.
