The “Labour Daily” also points out that the shares of the local companies held well on |,he stock exchange despite Mr Fenton’s attempted scare. SCULLIN SURVIVES DIVISION. CANBERRA, Apr,' ’4 The Scullin Guverni.mm, survived defeat by two voce! i:i the House of Representatives this afternoon Mr Latham, Leader of the Opposite m, had moved the adjournment of the House to direct attention to the hen 'v deficit of nineteen millions. While Air Theodore, the Treasure I *, was replying to Air Latham’s attack. Air Gullett (Deputy Leader of the Opposition), moved the closure. Every member on the Government side voted in favour of Mr Gulletf/s motion, making it a unanimous vote, at which there was laughter. When this subsided, Mr Latham’s motion for adjournment was put. It was defeated by 34 votes to 32. The Beaslevites voted with and saved the Government. The Lyons group voted with the Opposition. There were many cries of “Resign!” and “Let the Opposition gag themselves!” N.S.AV. INTEREST PAYMENTS. CANBERRA, April 15. Tn the House of Representatives, AH' Theodore* replying to a question said he was unaware of the intention of New South Wales Government in regard to the payment of interest for the month of April, namely £301.000 duo to Australian bondholders, and £125,000 to Americans, but be understood’ it had been paying its local interest to date. As to how long that will continue, he was not able to say. Mr Theodore understood that AT 1 Lang would continue payment of local interest unitil the Reduction of Interest Bill now before the State Parliament had been dealt with.
