TUESDAY. APRIL 14. A meeting of tile Board was held at 7.30 o’clock. Present; .Messrs \\ . ■I. Butler (chairman), ,J. A. Murdoch, T. R. C'licslorman, I). P. Stuart, T. \Y. Bruce, T. \V. Duff, E. W. Selby and B. Ward. Mr .). L. Langford, Managing Engineer of Westland Power Ltd., was present by invitation. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. Emm Westland Power Ltd., notifying payment of royalty on pow r generated. Received with thanks. From Park and Murdoch submitting petition by Kuniara Borough ratepayers asking inclusion of tile Borough area in the Westland Electric Power District, and forwarding necessary notification. Received. The (li'irman moved that His Excellency. the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand be requested to grant the petition of the ratepayers of the Borough of Kuniara to have the Borough of Kuniara included ill the Westland Electric Power District. Air Ward seconded. Carried. A general discussion ensued in regard to matters affecting extensions o l ' )*.!>•> onwer line to various parts of the district. Mr Langford supplied details of the present position in respect to Kuniara. Humphreys, Kuitorn.ngi. Woodstock and Kanieri Tram residents, explaining tin* situation in each instance. There were already 13 miles of power line. Extensions depended on the guarantees in each locality which required groups of consumers to guarantee' a payment of 20 per cent of the cost of construe!ion for a period of five years. The C"mpanv was glad to give service where the guarantee was forthcoming, and could only undertake the work mi a pnvnble basis. Ra rfimila rs were sunplied of the cost do (he respective dis. triets and a further canvass was being made. Tn connection with Knifer•o'gi. an 'important industrial development was possible with regard to-tie’ line which would give the pasjoral districts generally a great fillip. Comment was passed on the favourable position of ' the Power District which was having a large capital e.\ pmirliture carried' out, and a great utility service provided for the community, -wit limit any rating liability.
