The Government admits the r°volt in the Azores and the disbandment of the garrisons of Sao Miguel and Terceira, but the troops at Horta have telegraphed their loyalty to the Gov- / ernment which has decreed the dismissal of all military and civil servants participating l in the revolt. LONDON, April 11. v , The “Daily Telegraph’s” Madrid correspondent reports that two troopships intended for Madeira are still at anchor off the Portuguese coast. Apparently the Government prefers to keep nearby large military forces to occupy Lisbon and Oporto. / TROOPS START. TO QUELL MADEIRA REVOLT. M ' '■■■ LISBON, April 10. Two punitive transports quietly slipped out to Madeira, but there are suggestions that they may be recalled in the event of adverse developments in Portugal. The Government persists in the statement that all is quiet throughout the country. A British United Press correspondent says that troops are concentrating at strategic points. OFFICIAL DENIALS. According to a Government commuwique, rebels asked the British Conpykfat Madeira to act as intermediary Officials deny reports that a voluntary movement has broken out in the African Colonies. They declare they are dealing vigorously with foreign correspondents, who ate falsifying the situation. Several regiments in the-Provinces refused to obey the Government’s orders. The authorities are concentrating troops at Barrieno, Cnldas and Darainha. Lorries mounted with machine guns are patrolling Lisbon nightly. Cortesao Agent- General for the Colonies, Professor Feria and others, were arrested. When the Minister of War instructed the Commandant of Aviation. Amadora, ,Jtd) arrest Francisco Arago, a popular ivirman, the order was disobeyed.
