SMUGGLERS' CAVE

BETRAYED BY MYSTERY LIGHT. A mysterious light, seen by coastguards to be shining about the middle the 500 ft. elill overlooking the hay at Beer, a fishing village near Seaton. Devonshire, lias led to tlie discovery of what, it is suspected, may lie a smugglers’s haunt. Tim coastguards called in the police to unravel the mystery, and a plucky sergeant climbed up the formidable cliff to the cave from which the light had shone. He found beds, bedding, clothes, tinned goods, and various other things which proved tlie cave was being used as living quarters. But the cave dwellers had gone. It has been found that the articles in file cave are very likely tlie proceeds of a luirglarv in the district, but it apepars that while the police were making their inquiries the elusive cave dwellers had removed some of the goods from the cave. A long rope has been found inside, and is supposed to have beep used Ur lowering goods from the top o l ' the cliff to tbe cav<* Some of tlie local fishermmi consider that a thorough investigation of tlm cave will prove that smugglers have been til work for some time.
