DERATING SOC lETIES SEEK A VAR I AT lON. WELLINGTON. April 8. A deputation representing various debating societies, the Y.M.C.A., the W.E.A., the Pacific Relations Group, and other bodies, asked the PostmasterGeneral to relax the restrictions now imposed on the- subject of debates, under the broadcasting regulations, owing- to the strict interpretation of the worlds “propaganda of a controversial nature.” The Hon. .1. B. Donald replied that he was unable to give an answer immediately, but would do so in a few days. He added that the broadcasting regulations were being revised. Although the new broadcast ing .scheme would not be available for tile present' session it would probably be available before the next session. A good deal of money was required lor earthquake relief, and tln> Department would have to modify its scheme, but. be was certain that alterations would he made in lire service from the beginning of next- year. It was bis desire to make the service' as pleasant as possible lor listeners and at the same time to make it educational.
