KUMARA RACES

SPOILT BY RAIN'. A .MISERABLE DAY. The Kumara Racing 01 uh were again most unrortunatc yesterday in regard to their annual race meeting. There was steady rain during the night, and though the weather showed some improvement in the early morning, from nine o’clock onward there were decided showers, but shortly after 11 o’clock heavy rain set in and continued for several hour? without much improvement or abatement. The Club carried on its race meeting, hut under such wot circumstances the attendance was greatly affected, while the conditions generally were bad. Tlio course was extremely heavy and cut up very badly, while patrons found the standing ground a quagmire, while the stand accommodation was unequal to covering oven the small attendance. Under these circumstances' the proceedings were very unpleasant for all concerned. The jockeys had a bad time coming in after each race wet through and well bespattered with nmd. Some of the horses seemed to revel in the mud while others appeared unable to exert themselves. The heavy rain and small attendance affected the totalisator turnover, but under the circumstances the Club did well to reach the sum of £3844 as against £7696 last year a decrease of £3853. There were good fields throughout and the finishes wore well contested throughout Despite the fact, that the track was in a very bad state, there was no serious accident, the only mishap of the day being when Fallow fell, bringing down Fortalioe, in the High-weight Handicap. - - An inquiry was held into the alleged crossing of Countermarch by White Ringlet, there being no action taken. White "Ringlet, when finishing in Flying Handicap, almost fell in the straight. R.
