Leo Brothers, a notorious St. Louis gunman, lias been sentenced to fourteen years’ imprisonment in the State penitentiary for the murder of Allred Llingle, a reporter of the “Chicago Tribune” who was shot dead nearly a year ago “because lie knew too much. The- jury took twenty-seven hours to reach their verdict.

This is probably one of the few murder trials recorded in which a verdict was sought without some sort of direct evidence leading to a motive tor killing. The case pivoted wholly on identification.
