MR FORBES PRAISED

HON. L. M. ISITT’S TRIBUTE. All eloquent tribute to tbe straightforwardness of the Prime Minister, lit. Hon. G. \Y. Forbes, was paid in the Legislative Council by the Hon. L. M. Isitt, when replying to criticism by the Hon. W. Earnshaw. “T do not think for one moment,” said 'Mr Jsitt, “that Mr Earnshaw really believes that the Government is out for the' degeneration and the ruin of the working classes. He knows just as well as 1 do that no matter how much he may differ from the Prime Minister's opinions and his proposed legislation, we have in Mr Forbes one of the straightest and the most honest men in New Zealand politics. He is the very last man to pander to the rich and lean upon the shoulders of the poor any burden that ought to he borne by the wealthy. 1 do not be-lieve—-and I have had the privilege o! his intimate friendship for the last 20 years—whether one thinks his policy right" or wrong, that there is in New Zealand t.o-day a man who real- I ises more deeply, or moiy. seriously, than does Mr Forbes, the tremendous weight of responsibility that rests on iiis shoulders; or who i.s more intensely anxious to solve the complex problem that now confronts him, and serve, his country in this hour of need.”
