As a protest against th<? reduced pay, one hundred relief workers elm ployed under Lyttelton Borough Coun* cil refused to work to-day, after a livei.v deputation to the Mayor, wnen the men*earned a resolution of protest refusing to accept work and calling on workers not to pay the unemployment levy.

AGITATION IN AUCKLAND. AUCKLAND, April 1. Following a crowded meeting lust night when a resolution was passed by relief workers to down tools immediately in a protest against the reduction of rates of relief pay, attempts were made to-day to induce all to stop. The principal developments occurred in Alt, Kden district, where one hundred men were working. A stop work meeting was held and in response to an appeal, all but about twenty men responded. Eventually the number of workers was reduced to five married men, fifteen others stopping, it is alleged, in consequence of threats.

Other gangs of men were then visited. and one hundred out of 340 men at the training college stopped work. The next place visited was MU Roskill where about seven hundred nre working, but here there was no response, the agitators being greatly outnumbered, and about fifteen policemen being handy.
