WAGE REDUCTION

TRADES HALL EMPLOYEES. (Australian Press Association.) MELBOURNE, March 31. Although union officials strenuously opposed any reduction in wages in the Arbitration Court and insisted the Hogan Government should not agree to any dismissals; salary decreases or rationing in State enterprises. Trades Hall nuthorites approved of the principle of reduction of wages for its own employees to meet, the economic circumstances. The Trades Hall Council reduced the salaries of its employees by ten per cent., which was the rate fixed by the Arbitration Court. The full court of the Commonwealth Arbitration Court granted a number of applications for a reduction hv ten per cent, in wages prescribed in certain industries. In other oases consideration was reserved, hut in none was application refused.
