THE HOUSE. (By Telegraph—Per Brens Association) WELLINGTON, March 31. The House of Representatives met nt 10 si.in. this morning. Urgency tv as accorded the passage of the Finance Bill a division resulting in the adoption of this motion by 42 to 24. Immediately the House went into committee and a division wa s taken on Alir Barry’s amendment, seeking to limit the application of the cut to sums exceeding £2lO. The amendment was defeated by 42 to 27, Messrs Black, Hogan, Massey. Rushwottb. I\ ilkiitson, Wright, and Young voting with Labour. Mr McCombs then moved that the cut should not apply to "‘wages of married men or single men with dependents in receipt of £4/0/8 a week' or less.”

The Prime Minister replying ex pressed the opinion that workers would he better off when the cost of lviing fell. He was subjected to cries of “Resign”. “Resign.” “Go to the country.”

Mr Forbes said that if the people making outside demonstrations thought' their threats were likely to deter the Government from doing its duty, they did not know the British race. TO-DAY'S SITTING. Wright, and Young voting with Labour. Mr Parry then moved to limit the application of the cut to sums exceeding £2OO. After a brief discussion this was rejected by 41 to 30, whereupon W. Nasi) moved a similar amendment with respect t.o £IOO.
