TOBACCO DUTIES
EFFECT IN ENGLAND. [United Press Association.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copy r igh t. ] LONDON, Y larch 30. Tobacco manufacturers arc taking an increased duty for granted in consequence of the receipt of instructions restricting the clearances from bond in April, to one-twelfth the clearances of last war.
In consequence. Imperial Tobacco shares fell from 80s 6d to 83s l.\d; British Americans, 83s 9d to 82s Gd; Carreras 4fd to 4 3-16. The receipts from tobacco in 1929-30 were 0;]- millions. The steadily increased taxation has not materially affected manufacturers profits.
