RADIO PROGRAMME
(Supplied by the Radio Broadcasting Company of N.Z. Ltd.) MONDAY, MARCH 30tn. Signor Lucieu Cesuroni and hi.-, company, in association with the Orchestrion, will provide 2YA’s concert programme this evening. Signor Cesaroni will sing to orchestral accompaniment, “Allah,” “The Palms,” Handel’s “Largo” and the “The Floral Dance.” In company with Miss E. Standen he will take part in two duetts. Miss Standen will be heard in two soprano solos, and a mezzo-soprano solo will be contributed by Miss Ailsa Dillon. Miss Ava Symons (violinist) will play Drdla’s “Serenade” and Bruch’s “Concerto,” both to orchfestral accompaniment.
3YA vocal artists will assist the New Brighton Municipal Band in the presentation of th e concert from the Christchurch station. The band will present a good lively programme. Mrs K. Henderson (mezzo-soprano), M iss Kathleen Bond (contralto) and Mr Percy Caithness (baritone) will provide some well diversified solo items. Mr Braeey Wilson, who is noted for, his Scottish humour, will entertain with Lauder and Fyffe items.
The Dunedin Orchestral Society’s first concert of the' 193] Reason, to he given in His Majesty’s Theatre, will be relayed by 4YA. The Society performs under the able conduetorship ot Mr Alfred Walmsley and an excellent programme will be presented. The vocal noloists will lie Miss Muriel Eager (soprano), Miss Gwenda Burl (contralto) and Mr J. E. Davies (tenor). Silent day at IYA. TUESDAY, MARCH 31st. A particularly fine programme has been arranged by IYA lor this evening. Ononing the programme, the IYA Broadcasting Choir, under the conduetorship of Mr Lcn Barnes, will present two choruses from the “Messiah.” A short suite by ColeridgeTaylor, to be played by the Orchestral Octet, will follow. The Choir will then present the radio play, “Evangeline,” which inis been (specially adapted from Longfellow’s poem. This will be followed by the rendition of “Messe Solennelle” (by Gounod). All the musical numbers of the choir will be accompanied by the Orchestral Octet. In a series of songs with orchestral accompaniment, Miss Belle Renaut, the popular contralto, will be featured at 2YA. Her items will b c “My Heart is Singing,” “When tbe House j$ Asleep,” “A Song Remembered” and “Absent.” Supplementary vocal numbers on the programme will be given by the Lyric Quartet, in concerted and solo form. Several of the items wilL have orchestral accompaniment, while Mr Roy Hill will sing, with violin obligato. Braga’s “Sere nata.” The quartette number, “Lullaby Moon” will also have violin obligato. In the singing of “Oft When Eve has Rest Bestowed,” the males voices of the quartet will be unaccompanied. The instrumental side of the programme will be provided by the Hawaiian Harmony Four and the Salon Orchestra.
St. Joseph’s Waverley Boys’ Orphanage Band will give their first radio performance at TYA .this evening. The band is a first class combination. Also contributing to the programme will he. Miss Phyllis I. Clare (Mezzo-soprano), Miss Lucy G. James (contralto), Mr H. Prowse (tenor), Mr- C. S. Hawes (baritone) and Mr J. B. Flynn (reciter). Silent day at 3YA. The afternoon talk at 4Ya to-mor-row will be; “How Listeners-in and the Home Science Department can help each other.”
