FRIDAY MARCH 27th
Frank Wade and His Melody Boys will be contributing to lYA’s populat programme this evening. They will present instrumental and vocal numbers. Messrs iiric Waters and Ray Jury are appearing as a piano and xylophone duo. Humour will be provided by The Tollys. Mrs Pearl Owen (mezzo-contralto) and Mr A. Kveril Orr (baritone) will sing solos. Mr Cyril Towsey will play a pianoforte solo, Chopin’s “Waltz in E Flat.”
Miss Kathleen Ferris ((Soprano), singing from 2Y.-\, will lx; heard in “Y'.illanolle,” “Indian Love Call,” “Jewell Song” (from “Faust”) and “Dream Lover.” Mr Nolio 'l'oki (tenor) is also on the same programme. Two humorous sketches will be acted by Madame Eugenie Dennis and partner. “Silence and Fun” will be played as a trombone solo with orchestral accompaniment. The Orchestrina under Signor A. P. Truda will provide a very attractive programme. Vocal refrains will be introduced into two of the numbers, while in another, “Listen to the Mocking Bird,” there will be birdlife effects.
Singing to orchestral accompaniment, Mr David McGill, the popular tenor of 3YA, will give a recital of three songs : “At Dawning,” “I Hear a Thrush at Eve’’ (both by Cadman) and the old favourite, “Alice Where, art Thou?” Mies Agnes Cunningham’s mezzo-soprano songs will include a new and pretty Irish air “Avourneon,” also the old iavourito “The Last Rose of Summer.” Mr J Graham Y’ouiig will sing four popular numbers. A clever pianist, Mr Sydney Hoskins, will entertain with extemporisations. at which lie is an adept. Mr Stan Birth will play Van Bieno's “Broken Melody’’ as a banjolin solo and lie will also play a medley of popular melodies. An orchestral programme will be provided by the Studio Octet.
Two first class Australian singer* who are on a brief business visit to New Zealand have rejoined forces with two of Dunedin’s lending vocalists and will appear at IYA as “The Harmonic Four.” 'flic personnel comprises:— Messrs L. Garden. W. J. Bobbins, F,. W. Robbins and W. Birch. Mr Birch is the possessor of a wonderful riel) bass voice of an exceptional range. Mr W. J. Bobbin’s voice rivals that ot Mr Birch for artistic expression. Listeners can anticipate a musical treat from this combination.
SATURDAY, MARCH 28th. v miscellaneous programme of much variety will be broadcast from IVA this evening. Contributing, will be Barry Ingall’s Hawaiian Quartet, to l>e heard in some popular melodies. Two popular entertainers, Ernest and Wendy, will provide “merry moments at the piano.” Mis« Irma Kite-bin (soprano) and Mr Stan Pritchard (baritone) will sing. A medley of Irish airs and a medley of fox trots will be> played by Mr W. Brcnnori an exponent of the mouth organ, aim dir Eric Bell will contribute pianoforte solos. At 2\ A Mr Will Bishop will produce the second of his second s.n s of “Eight o’clock Revues,” or “Grownup Children’s Hours.” Assisting Mr Bishop will he the- Etude Quartet (Miss Gretta Stark, Mrs Kay Kemp and Mr Ray Kemp and Mr W. Hancock) and Miss Elsie Croft. There will he a light programme by the Salon Orchestra. 3YA has a (typical week-end programme and this will also be broadcast by 4YA. The- Joyous Pair will sing cabaret songs at the piano. Some of tlie latest airs, including “Wanganui Moon,” by a N.Z. composer, will be played by Miss Elaine Moody’s Hawaiian Quartet, with vocal refrains by Miss Moody. Mr Ileg. Lamb with humorous songs and patter. Bass solos will he sung by Mr Ponder. Miss Irene Morris and Mr R. Ohlson will contribute violin arid cornet solos respectively. The Studio Trio will be contributing to the instrumental portion of the programme.
