Using light tanks and machine guns mounted ,on trucks, mutinous troops caused a panic in tho. streets when they were thronged with evening crowds, as the mutineers attempted to overthrow the Provisional Government by another political military revolt. The civilians fled for shelter. Two hundred lives, mostly those of soldiers of the Fifth Regiment, who mutinied against their officers, were lost. Under the command of their Sergeants,. the insurgents attacked the Government Palace, but the loyal troops subdued them in the early morning. The city was placed under martial law.
