CUSTOMS REVENUE
RECENT DECLINES. (Jiy Teleijrujjh — I‘erl’ress Association) WELLINGTON, March 26. The return of the customs and excise duties collected at the several ports of New Zealand during the quarter ended 31st December, 19311. which is published in the •‘Gazette” shows customs revenue received under the following heads:
General tariff—£ 1,077.302. British preferential tariff— £510.085 Primage—£2,9l9. •Surtax—£233,747. Tota I—£ 1,824,063.
For the corresponding quarter of the previous year, the revenue collected amounted to £2,303,894.
A comparative return of the customs duties for the years 1930 and 1929 shows that the revenue collected in 1930 was £7,776, 103, while for the year 1929 the revenue collected totalled £8.583,393.
A comparative return of the excise duties for the years 1930 and 1929 shows tile revenue for the former was £1.025,187, and for the latter 0888,582.
