WESTLAND RACING CLUB
The Committee of the above Club met at 8.45 o’clock but evening. Present: Messrs \Y. E. L in.urns (chair), F. McGregor, C. S. Neville. R. Whiley, M. Houston, J. Breeze, A. ■W. Yarrall, H. Newman, H. T. Parry, J. Peake and D. J. Evans.
Before proceeding with the business the Chairman referred to the death of Mrs Mclntosh., Sympathy had been expressed by letter to Mr Mclntosh and family, hut the lady had been always isucli an ardent supporter of the Club’s interests, that lie f°lt they might record on the minutes of tin* Club their sense of loss at her death. The motion was carried, those present standing in .silence as a mark ol respect. The nominations received for the Easter Wednesday Meeting were laid on the table. Tli<> e total is 143,- as against 125 for the first day last year, and 153 in 1929. There are a large number of horses engaged, and West Coast owners arc well represented, with entries also from Canterbury and the North Island. All the fields should prove very satisfactory. There are 89 horses engaged at the meeting.
Notification was received of the appointment by the Governor General of Air Francis McGregor as a trustee of the Hokitika Racecourse Reserve to fill a vacancy which had occurred. The Racing Conference notified thaf Mr G. E. Curry would he Stipendiary -Steward, and Mr H. Butters Racecourse Inspector. Internal Affairs Department advised Mr A. A. Bi«ley would lie Totalizator Inspector, The New Zealand Railways advised the . usual train arrangements for the race meeting, giving day connections from and to Blackball and Otira and all intermediate stations, with a race express train each way from Greymouth. Facilities would be provided also for a connection for passengers from Christchurch on the evening preceding the meeting. Received with than ks. The racing dates for 1931-2 season were fixed as follows; Summer Mooting, 1931, December 26 and 28. Autumn Meeting, 1.932, March 30. R,egret was expressed at the indisposition of Mr W. A. Jnjnicson, an official of the Club, and pleasure expressed at the prospect for his early recovery. Arising out of a discussion to assist the finances of ithe Club, a proposal was mooted to hold a race ball at a suitable date in mid-winter. U was decided fo fcako fbe matter up later. Matters affecting economies in management were discussed, tin* desire being to curtail possible expense. '! Im matter will be considered further after the forthcoming race meeting.
