DR LANG’S HEALTH TRIP

MEDITERRANEAN TOUR. RECOVERY FROM LENGTHY ILLNESS. RUGBY, March 23, •Dr Cosmo Gordon Lang, Archbishop of Canterbury, who some' time ago was ordered to take three months’ complete rest by his medical advisers, left London to-day en route for ithe Mediterranean, where he will join Mr Pierpont Morgan’s yacht, Corsair, for a cruise.

The Archbishop and Mr Morgan arc very old friends and will visit Palestine togethoib The Archbishop, who is suffering from an acute painful form of neuralgia, has recently made excellent progress towards recovery. The following bulletin was issued in January “The Archbishop of Can terbury is suffering from severe filthnerve neuralgia. 'The fundamental cause of this in the Archbishop’s case is over-work. In order to recover his health it will be necessary for the Archbishop to take complete rest for at least three months.” TWO' YEARS ILL-HEALTH. The Archbishop of Canterbury has been much harassed by ill-health since his accession to the see in 1928. He was enthroned on December 5 of that year and three weeks later it was announced that be was suffering from an attack of internal inflammation which made it necessary for him to keep to Ins bed, An operation by Sir Hugh Digby, tim surgeon who operated on the King, was only postponed owing to Dr Lang’s weak condition, He made a satisfactory recovery, but iri May, 1930, it was announced that although bis general health was good there had been some symptoms of the recrudescence of a duodenal ulcer, which had been the underlying cause of his illness the previous year. He was, therefore, ordered to take n complete rest during June ha order that he might be able to carry out the duties of the Lambeth Conference. After his illness in 1929 the ArchbishoD went to Aldwiek, near Bognor. for his convalescence. He stayed at The Mooring, which had been lent by Lady Cowdrav, and is near Craigwei! House, where the King stayed. Afterwards he went for a cruise in the Mediterranean and the Holy Land. Dr Lang is sixty-six years of age.
