RADIO PROGRAMME

(Supplied by the Radio Broadcasting Company of N,Z. Ltd.) THURSDAY, MARCH 26th. The Savoy Male Quartet —Messrs Bert Skeefe (alto), Frank Campbell. A. Gaily and S. Hislop—will provide the vocal pontion of the musical programme at IYA this evening. They will present some attractive numbers, solo as well as concerted. Humorous dialogues will he given by Miss M'ljsie Carte-Lloyd and Miss Irene Terry. JMiss Carte-Lloyd will also recite “An Old Maid’s Mistake.” A programme of popular items will he presented by the Orchestral Octet. Mi/ss Molly Atkinson will give a lecture-recital, using gramophone records, on “Scandinavian Music.”

The Wellington Orpheus Musical Society, undGr the conductor-ship of Mr Harison Cook, will give a studio concert at 2YA. The concerted numberp will be specially fine. Some excerpts from operas will he included, The, vocal soloists will he Miss Mollie Fenton (soprano), Miss Ngaire Colter (mezzo-soprano), Miss Christina Young (contralto), Mr H. Brusey (tenor) and Mr C. A. Wilson (tenor). There will also he pianoforte solos, flute and violins hy first class performers. A good type of programme tor an operatic-classical evening has been arranged by 3YA. Miss Sylvia Angus (soprano) and Mrs Stephen Parr (mezzo-soprano) will be the lady vocalists, tli ( > male singers being Mr .1. Haydn Williams (tenor) and Mr Malcolm Miller (basis). The bass solos will be “Tb e Wanderer,” “Star of Eve” and “'Vulcan’s Song.” Mr W. Hay will contribute flute so lbs and a fine orchestral programme will he presented by the Studio Octet under Mr Harold Beck. Silent day at 4YA.

FRIDAY, MARCH 27th

Frank Wade and His Melody Boys will h e contributing to lYA’s populai programme this evening. They will present instrumental and vocal ' numbers. Messrs Eric Waters and Ray .Jury are appearing as a piano and xylophone duo. Humour will be prov.ueci ny tne i'ollys. Mrs Pearl Owen (mezzo-contralto) and Mr A. Everil Orr (baritone) will sing solos. Mr Oyril I 'owsey will play a pianoforte solo, Chopin's “Waltz in E Flat.”

Miss Kathleen Ferris (.soprano), singing from ‘2YA, will Imt heard in “Villnnelle,” “Indian Love Call,” “Jewell Song” (from “Faust”) and “Dream Lover.” Mr Noho Toki (tenor) is also on the same programme. Two humorous sketches will be acted by Madam e Eugenie Dennis and partner. “Silence and Fun” will be played as a trombone solo with orchestral accompaniment. The Orchcstrina under Signor A. P. Truda will provide a very attractive programme. Vocal relrains will be introduced into two of the numbers, while in another, “Listen to •the Mocking Bird,” there will he birdlife effects.

Singing to orchestral accompaniment, Mr David McGill, the popular tenor of 3YA, will give a recital of three songs : “At Dawning,” “1 Hear a Thrush at Eve’’ (both by Cadman) and the old favourite, “Alice Where art Thou?” MiKs Agnes Cunningham’s mezzo-soprano songs will include a new and pretty Irish air “Avourneen,” also the old favourite “The Last Rose of Summer.” Mr .1 Graham Young will King four popular numbers. A clever pianist, Mr Sydney Hoskins, will entertain with extemporisations, at which he is an adept. Mr Stan Birch will play Van Biene’s “Broken Melody’’ as a banjo!in solo and he will also play a medley of popular melodies. An orchestral programme will be provided by the Studio Octet.

Two first class Australian singer.who are on a brief business visit to New Zealand have rejoined forces with two of Dunedin’s leading vocalists and will appear at 4YA as “The Harmonic Four.” The personnel comprises:— Messrs L. Garden, W. J. Robbins, E. W. Robbins and W. Birch. Mr Birch is the possessor of a wonderful rich bass voice of an exceptional range. Mr W. J. Bobbin’s voice rivals that ol Mr Birch for artistic expression. Listeners can anticipate a musical treat from this combination.
