MURDER ON RADIO. POCKET SETS FOR POLICE. LONDON, March 13. P.C. 40, tramping his weary beat in Houndsditcb, will shortly be able to plug into a wireless set in his pocket and listen to somebody yelling blue murder—or a syncopated orchestra—--100 miles away. If the Home Secretary (Mr J. RC'lynes) adopts the recommendation of expert experimenters, police throughout Britain will all carry pocket wireless sets. Experiments at Patchnm showed that the sets could receive messages from a private transmitting station at Brighton. The sets cost only £4 each, and were invented by a young Slough engineer named P. Dean (sgvs the NewsChronicle). When a message is coming a buzzer warns the policeman, who has merely to plug his earphones into the set, which is effective at a distance of 100 miles.
