TRAGIC N.S.W. FIRE. (Australian Press Association.) .SYDNEY, March 23. A police sergeant was killed, live people were hurt, and hundreds of others scattered in terror, when, during a lire at the Momalong Hotel in Berringan, a gas cylinder exploded. The entire population of two thousand in Berrigan turned out when tlie fire-alarm rang. There wer t . many willing helpers, hut the hotel burneiT to the ground. There were scores of narrow escapes. The police sergeant’s dog was killed beside him, N.S.W. POLITICS. (Received 10.45 a.m.) SYDNEY, March 26. Legislative Council, oil Mr Camither« motion by 35 to 22 postponed for six months the second reading of the interest Reduction Bill. Mr Carruthers urged that the Government should refer the Bill to the people and 'simultaneously ask the. electors if they wanted the Upper House to continue. Opponents of the Bill condemned it in strong terms as n first step in the Lang Repudiation Policy, TASMANIAN ELECTIONS. HOBART, March 26. Parliament has dissolved. The elections will be held on 9th. May.
