RADIO PROGRAMME
(Supplied by the Radio Broadcasting Company of N.Z. Ltd.) WEDNESDAY, MARCH 25th. A concert to be given by the Whaugarei Municipal Silver Band under Mr A. Dobson, will oe relayed from Whangarei to IYA this evening. An excellent programme has been arranged. Tile weekly programme of recorded items from overseas broadcast entertainments will be heard from 2YA. Given in 4YA Studio this evening and also broadcast by 3YA, will be a dialogue for the benefit of farmers. Th e speakers will be Messrs R. B. Tennant and Mr L. W. McCaskill, and the subject will be “Farmer Brown talks about rotational grazing and criticises the system.”
Mr Sydney Williamson’s newlv formed male voice quartet, Miss Phyllis Kinniburgh (pianiflte) and the Working Men’s Club Orchestra will provide 3YA’s programme. The quartet comprises Messrs C. R. Williamson, Sydney Williamson, J. J. Hall and Leslie Fleming. Miss Kinniburgh is a pianists who has played with distinction at Competitions. The Working Men’s Club Orchestra, under the baton of Mr A. G. Heath, is an excellent combination composed mainly of professional musicians. As a piccolo solo, with orchestral accompaniment, Godfrey’s “Yankee Doodle” will Ik* played by Mr T. Amos. I n “Alpine Echoes,’’ the cornet soloists will be Messrs Fred Fox and Fred Chapman.
4YA is featuring a special “Beethoven Evening.” Mr Max Scherek, President of tile Society of Professional Musicians of Otago, will give a lecture tte on the famous composer. The vocal portion of the musical programme will he provided by the Harmonists’ Sextet, consisting of Miss Map Mathose n (soprano), Miss Evelyn Shepard (soprano), Miss Margaret Green (contralto), Mr H. A. Johnston (tenor), Mr S. Falconer (bnritoigA and Mr W. B. Lambert (bass), with Mrs C. Brake as pinniste. The instrumental portion of the concert will be provided by Mr Max Scherek ami bis string sextet. To-morrow afternoon. the home science talk from ]Y\. 2YA and 3A A, prepared by tin* Home Science Extension Department of Otago [lniversitv. will be on “Vegetable Preserving.”
THURSDAY, MARCH 26th. The Savoy Male Quartet —Messrs Bert Skeelp (alto), Frank Campbell, A. Gaily and S. Hislop—will provide the vocal port ion of the musical programma at IYA this evening. They will present some attractive numbers, solo as well as concerted. Humorous dialogues will be given by Miss Maisio Carte-Lloyd and Miss Irene Terry. •Miss Carte-Lloyd will also recite “An Old Maid’s Mistake.” A programme of popular items will be presented by the Orchestral Octet. Mips Molly Atkinson will give a lecture-recital, using gramophone records, on “Scandinavian Music.”
The Wellington Orpheus Musical Society, under ithe eonduetorship of Mr Harison Cook, will give a studio conbert at 2YA. The eoneerted mimborp will be specially line. Some excerpts from operas will be included. The vocal soloists will he Miss Mollio Fenton (soprano), Miss Ngaire Coflter (mezzo-soprano), Miss Christina Young ('contralto), Mr H. Brusey (tenor) and Mr C. A. Wilson (tenor). There will also bo pianoforte isolos, flute, and violins by first class performers.
A good type of programme for an operatic-classical evening has been arranged by 3YA. Miss Sylvia Angus (soprano) and Mrs Stephen Parr (mezzo-soprano) will be the lady vocalists, the male singers being Mr .T. Haydn Williams (itenor) and Mr Malcolm Miller (basts). The bass solos will be “The: Wanderer,” “Star of Eve” and “Vulcan’s Song.” Mr W. Hay will contribute flute solos and a fine orchestral programme will he presented by the Studio Octet under Mr Harold Beck. Silent day art, 4YA.
