Further details here of the wreck shew the second mate, whose gallantry resulted in the saving of fifty-six lives, was twice beaten back in an attempt to reach the shore with a life line. A young girl swaan a. hundred yards in the boiling sea and saved herself. A five years old girl was swept from her father’s arms and drowned, leaving a tiny shoe in his hand. The passengers were asleep when the Hera grounded.
