HOKITIKA FIRE BOARD
THURSDAY, MARCH 19. The Board met at the Town Hall at 7.30 p.m. Present: Messrs A. R. Elcock, J. J Breeze, W. Braddon, C. L. Green and B. Iv. Bain. ELECTION OF CHAIRMAN. The Secretary took the chair and. invited nominations for the position of Chairman. Air Breeze nominated Air Elcock for re-election. Seconded by Mr Green ahd carried. Mr Elcock took the chair and thanked members for the renewed confidence expressed. MOTION OF SYMPATHY. Air Breeze moved that the Board place on record its deep sense of the loss sustained, by S'upt. Mclntosh by the loss of his wife and convey to him and his family the deep sympathy of members of the Board. Seconded by Mr Braddon and carried in silence, members standing. The minutes were confirmed and outward correspondence approved. IN AVAR D COR R ESPONDENCE. From Minister of Internal Affairs supplying list of fire insurance companies operating throughout N,Z.— Received. From Same notifying date for rettirtis of premiums for the year 1930. Received. From Same, notifying retirement of On nto in Hugo, and stating that no fresh, appointment will be made hut notifying that Air Girling Butcher, Inspector of Explosives will undertake the duty pending a permanent appointment to the position, who is in charge of the administration of similar public: sv’fetv legislation.—Received.
Air Groan suggested that a protest be made to the Government urging the appointment of a. qualified officer to succeed Inspector Hugo. j Air Breeze objected to this course holding in the present difficult finnnoH position it would he better to let matters stand as suggested by the Government. After further discussion it was resolved to take no action. It was resolved to forward a letter conveying appreciation of past services to Inspector Hugo on the occasion of his retirement from the service. From Hokitika Borough Council, notifying the appointment of Alessrs A. R. Elcock and AY. C. Braddon, as members of the Hokitika Fire Board for ensuing year, 1931.—Received From Minister of Internal Affairs advising.that the following were elected to the Hokitika Fire Baord viz. ,T. ,1. Breeze. N.Z. Government representative; Messrs C. L. Green and K. B. Bain, Fire Insurance Companies; Messrs A R. Elcoek and W. C. Braddon, Hokitika Borough Council.—Received. From Hokitika Fire Brigade, applying for the Supply of 30 pairs of trousers for members of the Brigade; also for two flre extinguishers for the motor engine, and a further supply of 300 feet of hose Received. It was resolved to supply the trousers, to be arranged for on. the estimates REPORTS. The Treasurer reputed receiots £174 6s 6d, payments £199 16s 4d, debit balance £BO 6s 4d.—Received. Accounts amounting to £lB7 16s Id were passed for rryirmt. THE ESTIMATES. The estimates for the year were considered and approved totalling,£6so. The Secretary reported there were no discrepances in the tell tale clock for the period.—Received. The draft bye-laws submitted by the Chairman was held over till next meeting'.
